Which bench makes a thing, what it takes, and the order you have to do it in.
Everything you craft is made at a station: a bench standing in a keep. A station does two jobs. It refines what you gathered into a component, and it crafts that component into something you wear.
The skill is not the bench. Fourteen crafting skills fold onto nine stations, and a recipe names both, so a skill will not tell you where to stand. The station will, and that is what this section is built on.
A craft list totals up everything a set of recipes needs (every ingredient, every refining step, and the bench each one happens at) and keeps count of what you already hold.
It needs an account so the list is still there tomorrow. Nothing on it depends on your crafting level: plenty of people keep one purely to know what to gather.
Add any recipe from a station page and it becomes a list: ingredients rolled down to raw materials, grouped by bench, with what you hold taken off.
Most people start from the set they are working towards and let the list say what to gather.
Each station holds one or two skills. Where it holds two, one refines and the other crafts, except Blacksmithing, which holds two crafting skills and refines nothing.
Refining happens at the same bench as the crafting for that material family. Tanning sits beside Leatherworking, Sawing beside Woodworking, Weaving beside Tailoring.
Metal is the exception, and the only one. Smelting has a bench of its own (the Forge), and nothing is crafted there. Eight material families, nine stations, and the extra station is that split.
The rule settles cases the numbers do not. Cloth armour lists Weaving in one place and Tailoring in another; at the Textile Station Weaving is the refining skill and Tailoring the crafting one, so a finished cloak is Tailoring.
No refining bench exists for its own sake. Every one of them spends most of its output on benches it is not.
So a station is a place, not a specialism. Reading the Forge as “the metal page” is the mistake: nothing you wear is made there.
Follow one piece of gear down through every component it is made of and count the benches you had to stand at. Across all 903 craftable gear items the median is 4 benches and the mean is 3.575858250276855.
Only 28 of 903 are made at a single bench. 55 need six.
64 materials are made at a bench rather than gathered, across 5 of the nine stations. This is the list of things you go to one bench to make so you can use them at another.
